Taking care of succulents

Taking care of succulents

There a few important things to keep in mind when it comes to taking care of succulents.

Pay close attention

Your succulent will let you know if something isn't going well for it, you just need to watch out for the signs. Yellowing or dry looking leaves mean you should probably water your succulent a bit more often. Try to give it water once a week and check back every day. When it starts showing the same signs again you will know how often it will require watering.

If it starts getting droopy leaves you should probably move the plant to a more sunlit area in your apartment. Be careful, unless the type you have specifically enjoys it, you should keep it away from direct sunlight.

Provide enough sunlight

You might thing that your succulent is doing great in the shade since it grew so tall in no time. On the contrary, succulents stretch when they don't get enough sunlight. Unless you prefer you plant like this, in which case by all means just leave it be, you can "decapitate" your succulent and reroot it. Just cut off the upper part, save a few leaves for propagating from its long "neck" and leave them all out in the sun for a few days.

Make sure you are using the right soil

To ensure your plant is the healthiest it can get, use cactus and succulent potting soil. This is porous so that water penetrates easily and drains away quickly, preventing root rot. Also make sure that the pot you are planting in has sufficient drainage to further ensure that water gather and stay around the root system.

We hope you found these tips useful, and wish you happy gardening!
