DIY succulent terrarium

DIY succulent terrarium

Are you ready to get creative? We show you how to design and assemble your very own succulent terrarium!

This project is going to show you how to put together a very easy to do terrarium using a few plants and some decorative rocks. You can always add your own spin on these steps to create a beautifully unique terrarium.

First things first

You need to do a bit of planning before jumping into assembling your terrarium: what kind of plants and decorations will you use? This will make your job easier to assemble the terrarium, since you will know where you will place each part.

We decided to create a minimal arrangement using our hanging glass terrarium in size medium, a smaller Echeveria 'Adorn' with three babies and cream coloured pebbles. If you prefer using cacti as well, go ahead and add in one or two babies to create more interesting extrures and shapes. Don't worry about putting more plants together in such a small space, these plants won't mind, as long as you take care of them properly!

Assembly

First of all put down a layer of well draining cacti and succulent soil into your terrarium. Feel free to add more or less than us, depending on the terrarium's size and amount of plants you have. When you have a solid layer that will be able to keep your plant in place, create a small hole in the soil. Now you pop the plant in, adjusting it as you wish, making sure it's stable. Continue like this until you have placed all your plants. Before moving on to the next step, water the plants making sure to add just enough so that the soil gets wet. Since the terrarium doesn't have a drainage hole you need to be careful not to drown your plants and cause them to start rotting.

Finishing touches

How you decorate your terrarium is completely up to you. You may add some pebbles like we did, keep it sweet and simple or finish off with some sphagnum moss.
